Rénovations Chisholm: Une entreprise familiale construite sur la qualité, le service et l’intégrité
Rénovations Chisholm a été fondée en 1956 par les frères Jack et Don Chisholm, venus de la Nouvelle-Écosse, pour faire fortune à Montréal. La compagnie a débuté dans la fabrication de contre-fenêtres. Jack possédait déjà une considérable expérience dans la fabrication de fenêtres, ayant travaillé dans une grande usine aux États-Unis. Il est donc tout naturellement devenu le partenaire actif dans la vente et l’installation des fenêtres, une fois arrivé à Montréal.
Dennis, le fils de Jack, qui est le président actuel de Rénovations Chisholm, raconte les premiers jours de l’entreprise :
« La mise sur pied de la nouvelle compagnie fut une période difficile pour mon père. Il occupait trois emplois pour subvenir aux besoins de sa famille tout en essayant de faire fonctionner l’entreprise. »
Par chance, il a apporté avec lui un actif important : l’attitude maritime d’entraide entre voisins. Ce comportement est devenu le principe directeur de la compagnie qui veut que le client soit traité avec intégrité, en lui offrant le meilleur service possible et des produits à un prix équitable. Cette attitude était inhabituelle durant cette période de « tin man » où les arnaques étaient monnaie courante dans l’industrie du revêtement en aluminium. Les consommateurs ont su faire la différence et la compagnie a grandi. Toujours à la recherche de nouvelles façons d’améliorer le service, Rénovations Chisholm a innové.
« Nous avons été les premiers à fabriquer et à installer des soffites avec ventilation. » ajoute Dennis Chisholm.
Au cours des années, la compagnie a prospéré, le personnel a augmenté et d’autres produits et services ont été offerts tels que revêtements extérieurs, portes, toitures et rénovations domiciliaires. À la fin des années 70, ils ont décidé d’abandonner la fabrication de fenêtres quand des manufacturiers plus importants sont entrés dans le marché avec une production de masse et des prix plus bas. Il n’était plus rentable pour Chisholm de continuer la production. Le service étant leur point fort, ils se sont donc concentrés sur la vente au détail et la rénovation.
En 1990, Dennis Chisholm est devenu président de Rénovations Chisholm lorsque sa sœur et lui ont racheté les parts d’entreprise de leur père et de leur oncle. Cette transition allait de soi pour Dennis qui avait pratiquement grandi dans la société. Il a commencé à travailler dans l’industrie à l’âge de 13 ans et à 18 ans, il travaillait à temps plein dans la production, l’installation et la vente, acquérant ainsi toutes les connaissances nécessaires pour gérer l’entreprise. En plus de la formation technique, Jack Chisholm leur a aussi transmis l’éthique professionnelle et le concept de satisfaction du client qui, aujourd’hui encore, caractérisent l’entreprise.
